convenient low boy Not withstanding the new regulations that are coming out, this is a nice water heater to replace a low boy. It just got installed so can't speak to its longevity or performance; however, I was told by the plumber that it wasn't difficult to install given my limited space in half of a closet (shared with AC) in a narrow corner of my home. I honestly don't understand the home builder's logic but that has nothing to do with this product. My hope is that it lasts as long as the replaced unit that made it from 1998 until now (Apr 2015). easy to install heater went out a Saturday afternoon and I'm too cheap to pay lowe's home improvement or a plumber $300 to install a new one. So I replaced the old one with the same whirlpool model , the previous model lasted 8 years with a 6 year warranty so I cant complain. The instructions were easy to understand , the hardest part was draining the old one. I upgraded to a stand under the new one to make sure it pass the new code and had it installed and running in about 4.5 hours. Not too bad for my first time and the hot water was working about one hour after install, thanks for the idiot proof instructions !!Works great, the works heats up even faster than the previous one !! ease of install the water heater i had to replace was over 15 years old and worked fine though it started to leak. replacement was easy. February 11, 2015
This product was a replacement of one just like it, and it had been a good one , so we went with the same again. Our hot water heater burned out, so we replaced it with one like it. We had several years of service from the old one, so we decided to replace it with one like it. We hope to have similar luck with this one. It was easy to install and service to it should be easy in the future due to easy access. It is working well, and we have already put it to use. We look forward to having years of good service form it. Thanks November 25, 2014
Length of use Water heater has been good overall. Just one day it wasn't producing enough hot water. I figured it was the heating element. So before I look at the unit I went to Lowes to purchase the heating element's and gaskets. When I returned home and took the covers off I notice some rusting and moisture around covers. The top element looked fine but when I got to bottom element. It was total rusted up and corrosion around bottom element. Was going to remove element and clean and install new. But after further inspection the corrosion was just to severe to remove. So replacement was the decision. The problem is this unit which is what I need is not readily available and had to order. So I have to wait till 12/04/14 for it to arrive. Yes I could replace with smaller unit but I have a large family and this unit is the only one that will work for us. November 24, 2014
Couldn't ask for more! We were faced with an unplanned purchase of a new water heater due to the 9 yr old, 38 gallon unit beginning to leak on a Saturday morning! Thankfully with the help of a Lowes store associate this special "low boy" 50 gallon model was found in a distant Atlanta suburban store. No special order required! YAY! Our install is unique; as the water heater shares a small closet with the air handler for the a/c. It was great to find this larger capacity unit that fit perfectly into this shared space without any major plumbing modifications. We appreciate the extra capacity and the efficiency. The installation guide is very well illustrated & written. Therefore we were able to acquire all the additional parts required for the plumber to install on very short notice. This was immensely helpful. November 16, 2014
This product is a whirlpool.....what more can I say! Have never had a problem with whirlpool products. The only thing I would have liked the drain valve to be brass instead of plastic. October 19, 2014
I have no opinion at this time. I just put it in 1hr ago. I was disappointed it didn't come with the connections to attach hot & cold water to the tank. I had to drive back to Loews and buy them. October 16, 2014
This product provides enough hot water for my family. The first Whirlpool water heater we bought and had installed was defective. The plumber took it out and bought a second one. We lost $100 as a result of having a defective one the first time. This was the only size Lowe's had that would fit our crawl space. September 22, 2014
