Hottest water so far!
Wow! What a difference in the amount of hot water! Out unit is set only at hot and it cranks out more hot water than our 16 year old heater ever did! I did not rate the quality yet is it was just installed, but it seems like a well built unit. Like the darker color gray vs the white color. My friend just bought a 50 gallon 6year Whirlpool hot water heater, but I decided to go for the 40 gallon but with a 12 year warranty for the piece of mind, especially with the new sensors up front. We'll see if it lasts that long!

Honeywell control system
Over all quality is good, and I really like the new honeywell control unit. Very easy to understand and set. Also like the red light monitoring system.

Easy installation,
I was debating which heater to get but the ratings of this one along with the dimensions made this the one. I was pleased to see a well written installation manual. It made the process easy and smooth. My last water heater gave me 18 years. If this Whirlpool gives me 12 years I'll be happy.

Newest technology
The unit was packed well, and was in great shope out of the box. It was easy to install and worked the first try.

Features Keep Improving
Purchased a Kenmore water heater (A.O. Smith) in 1992 and it lasted 21 years and 6 weeks. I believe that Whirlpool (A.O. Smith) is the same with a piezo striker system (and flashing Red LED). The models were so close in appearance that there was little necessary to change during the installation. I am expecting this one to last another 21 years.
NOTE: I have soft water in my area and keep the hot water temp at 160 ° F.

also had to buy threaded nipples for top and another for gas inlet. Was surprised these didn't come with unit.

Easy to remove and replace using vidoes and printed instructions.
We were not sure if we could do-it-ourselves until we viewed the How to install videos and printed instructions. The installation went smoothly. Would buy from Whirlpool again.

Great features of electronic thermostat & controls
So far the water heater is running nicely. It has a great appearance and was easy to light with the ignition system it comes with.
The biggest disappointment is that this unit is not energy star rated and will not be eligible for a rebate and will cost more to operate over the years.

Nice appearance and easy to use
It was difficult to keep the water connections from leaking during installation. It would be nice to have the nipples installed at the factory. Instructions to prevent leakage not available.

interesting features
The blinking code light may be helpful but time consuming to find out the problem if something is wrong. I wish the controls were higher on the unit because the room is small and the controls are partially obstructed by my dryer.
