Value for Money
Very impressed with the Product.. I have used it for only one day but still when compared to the old unit I had, this unit is working well beyond my expectations..
Originally bought the product a week back but had to return it to Lowes as there were some dents and scratches on the body, Lowes was good enough to replace the Product and it took only about 4 hrs to install the heater.
I am hoping this unit will lower my energy bill considerably, too early to comment on the electronics, but I hope it would last long

This product design is good
We used it for couple hours after the installation and so far the performance is good and we hope it could be that way in the long
used for 6 years or more (beyond the warranty period) and I have to observe the energy consumption in the future how much is the
savings compared to my old Heater.

I was excited to get a more energy efficient water heater for the price of a regular one with the gas company rebate, then I installed it. I had another plumbing problem that cause the Fuel Vapor sensor on the water heater to get wet that cause the 7 blinking light lockout. I thought no big deal - dried it out - plug it back in and I still got the 7 blinks. It turns out that there is a secret combination you have to use to reset the controller. Really, on a DIY water heater there is a lockout you can't reset yourself! After 2 hours of searching on the internet, I found that I had to rotate the temperature control between high and low 6 times to reset the controller and it works fine now. Print this in your operators manual and I'd give this water heater a higher rating.

Lowes delivered the heater to to my basement for free. (if they want a delivery fee, insist that it is a major appliance, which by Lowes policy is free delivery. A supervisor can override the fee if the computer sales machine wants to include it).
I installed it myself. I had to buy 2 nipples and 2 flexible hoses to complete the job. I had to use a torch to remove some copper fittings that attached the old heater. I also had to install and electrical outlet box near the heater.
The new heater was taller than the old one, which required me to shorten the length of the 3 inch diameter exhaust vent pipe by 2 inches. That resulted in my having to drill 3 new holes for the sheet metal screws. You will also have to drill 3 holes in the vent hood to attach the vent pipe.
You may be lucky not have to do the cutting and soldering, and make a direct substitution of new for old. You will at the very least need to drill 3 holes for the vent hood. I was not lucky, but was fortunate to have the tools and experience to get the job done.

Purchased at Lowe's for about $430 (on sale). It didn't come with the pipe nipples, so make sure you get what you need before you do your installation. Even though this is an Energy Star unit, it doesn't save a whole bunch of money vs. a standard unit (roughly $35 a year),but will pay for the additional cost after about 2 years. I would say it is worth it. I would like to see a longer manufacturers warranty than 6 years.

Heats water FAST! Easy to get system back "online "
Installation was easy and straight forward using a separately purchased kit that came with the proper fittings, gas line and water lines. First hot water heater that I've installed and it went fairly easily aside from the fact that upon filling the tank BOTH inlet and output nipples were leaking at the tank. This was later traced to ME not making then tight enough. REASON It seemed like they were stripping so I didn't want to make them too tight and strip out the fittings in the tank. Once I confirmed that the tanks female threads (where nipples screw into top of tank) were in fact METAL I gave them a GOOD tightening and it stopped the leaks! The heater was easy to fire up and did so within about 12 seconds. It heated all 40 gallons in about 1 1/2 hours.
The unit IS a little noisy as I've noticed but its a non-issue since it's in the basement. Heats water fast! I do like the fact that this unit is NOT dependent on a 120V source as I live in a Coastal community (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) and we do at times have power outages! No power = no Hot Water if you rely on a 120V source, so just because of THIS I recommend this unit!! 4 1/2 starts out of 5 My Old Kenmore unit last 24 YEARS!! This is rated at 12 so I'll be happy to get 12-15+ out of it. Time will tell ......

Replaced the 15 year old model and couldn't believe the difference! HOT water almost instantly! Much less noise! Running less water waiting for it to heat up!!! We expect to see a big difference in the utility bill as well.

Nice Product - Easy to Follow Instructions
I'm not a plumber but had the tools needed since I've installed several WH in the past. This unit came with very easy-to-follow instructions and all worked as indicated, even the lighting procedure. My only beef was the lack of water nipples for the CW 'in' and HW 'out' connection to my new supply pipes.
BTW -- thanks for including the 'checklist' on the install since this reminded me to check my water pressure first (using an inexpensive $11 gauge) and I discovered my house pressure-reducer was completely shot. Once I replaced that I quickly turned the unit on and the Hot Water was ready in about an hour, more or less.
