Great water heater
We have had this for just over a week and it works great! We had a problem with our large family with running out of hot water during showers, however, this water heater handles the load and with plenty of hot water to spare. I would recommend this heater to anyone.

Best value out there
An exhaustive search of available water heaters led me to this baby, and I am pleased with my purchase. The energy factor of .67 for this unit is better than the standard .58-.62 of most available models, which might seem inconsequential, except the utility company in my area offers rebates for replacements and the difference between a .62 and .67 is $75. I looked at tankless water heaters and based on the estimated annual expenses, the purchase prices, and the cost of installation supplies, I calculated that it would be 18 years to "break even" from the cost of the tankless water heater compared to this unit, which was too long term of an investment option in my opinion. As for the other stuff, I like the damper motor closing the exhaust whenever the burner is not on to retain heat, I like the look of this model, I like the relief valve on the side instead of the top, and I like the diagnostics. I do not like the air filter and I hope Whirlpool changes that to either something that is already built on and easy to remove for cleaning OR changes the way the air filter gets attached.

Good efficiency, simple operation, short warranty
Highest efficiency rating of models I looked at. When installed I set the temperature dial to the level I wanted and it lit itself and has functioned flawlessly since. I was amazed at how quickly it heated up compared to my old unit. They were the same size and the new unit was a slightly lower BTU rating. I guess the efficiency of the motorized flu damper and the lack of sediment buildup in the bottom of the tank made the difference. The warranty was dramatically worse on this unit (one year), than the other unit I looked at. Bad customer service at home depot caused me to buy this at Lowe's. Home Depot would have exchanged their heater for 12 years with no questions. Lowe's for one year.

Needs Battery Backup
The product initiated error codes shortly after the first cycle of heating H2O, as this is a brand new unit. I found this very frustrating. The Error codes indicated that the screen filter needed cleaning. This is a new install and the filter is brand new as well.. 2nd error TCO. After looking these codes up in the manual. I found in the reading i.e. "depress TCO door button, see figure #?" .No figure number was given for the 3 flash error code, #1 corrective action. A definition list and location guide for all trouble parts listed as being possible problems. Maybe I just didn't see the TCO location in the manual. If your going to use acronyms in the trouble shooting section, please document the FULL name at least once so that you don't have to go back through the entire manual to find out what it means.. Battery back up options would be nice during power outages and retractable or removable handles actually on the unit would be nice as well.

High Quality, High efficiency
Old 25 yr old WH burst. Did the research and installed myself. Haven't had it long enough to judge performance. Nice looking, and a 12yr gas heater with .67 efficiency. Debated on the electric spark and am trying it here. We don't lose electricity over a few hrs here. It installed well, seems well put together, and generally had good reviews. Outside case exhibits no heat leakage, cool to the touch. After CPVC drain path from pressure valve, gas tape on connector, 3" heat trap nipples and all new hoses up front, it installed well and fired right up. Only negative for me, I would like to see the water inlet/outlets a couple inches farther apart to more easily keep them away from the heat vent a bit. It is a little louder burning than the old one, probably because it recovers much quicker, and not that much louder to be concerned, just an observation.
I am pleased, and hope to get many years of service out of it. The extra 50 dollars or so to get a good one will go a long way in the future. I can at this point highly recommend this unit.

It's a nice one
I would recommend this water heater. It was easy to install and fired right up. I like the sensors and safety system. You do need to have an electrical outlet that is close to plug in for the sensors.

12year warranty, electric starter, gas, energy star rated
I had this unit professionally installed and the unit went in easily. The start up was a snap and it looks nice with the brushed bronze look of metal. The unit is a bit taller than our other 50 gallon unit. Love the energy star rating which will save me some $$s.
