Base leaked after 3 years The unit worked well until it began to leak from the base after 3 years and 3 months of service. Lowes replaced the unit under the manufacturer's warranty with a different energy efficient (.67) Whirlpool model with the same 12 year warranty. We paid for the installation. It took 4 hours from leak discovery until a new unit was in place. May 11, 2014
Excited about the product until 8 months later. I was very excited about the quality and price of this water heater when I purchased it from Home Depot San Antonio Texas in July of 2012. It was working great until I started to have problems in March of 2013. The flame will not cycle properly and keeps shutting down without warming the tank. Every components in the unit is clean. I don't want to take it back to Home Depot because I trust whirlpool and it has been less than 1 year. I don't want to pay for repairs either. I don't know what to do at this point. April 3, 2013
EXCELLENT UNIT, GREAT FEATURES! While only in op for a few days, it seems to work great. Upon initial start it heated the tank in about 40 mins. I do find the blower too loud for laundry room use, however. The manual and all instructions were VG. July 9, 2012
Excellent performance excepting temperature range and quality control Unfortunately got a doubly defective unit. However, both American Water Heater (mfr) and Lowe's (retailer) far exceeded my expectations in replacing defective parts, then the heater, and paying for it, as well as doing it very, very quickly; overnight in the parts case. From an engineering design standpoint the temperature control valve's lowest setting at +110F is too high. The heater typically heats +2-5 F higher than the reading so it would be preferable to have the lowest operating setting as +105F. There is a vacation setting of +70F. The "fan" in the unit sounds like a vacuum cleaner so having it in the basement away from people is preferred. Virtually each time you run the hot water the fan comes on. Regrettably no explanation for what this does. March 1, 2012
This water heater is great, many good features . Recently installed so long time not able to answer. Features are great, install was easy, recovery great. My only complaint is high price. February 20, 2012
Great Unit This product was easily installed. You must be informed when purchasing this unit that an outlet is required and the fan creates some noise. This was not a problem for me. It is too soon to see the energy savings or the quick recovery of hot water, but I am happy with LCD panel and the ability to adjust the temperature. December 2, 2011
Easy install The unit is very eacy to install. I had to do some re-plumbing for the install kit(must get) becuase the original intall was not done properly. I have not any issues with this unit and it provides nice hot water and we have not run out of hot water. November 30, 2011
So far, so good! No more difficult to install than any other gas water heater, seems well constructed. Does have fan noise when running but my installation location renders it a moot issue. Have not had it long enough to compare energy usage. Like the ease in which one can adjust water temperature, keep it hot when it is just the wife and I, but can lower it for safety when our grandchildren visit from out of state. One downside compared to unit I replaced, this one won't work if power goes out. But neither will most everything else in the house! November 13, 2011
Forced air induction It has only been in 4 or 5 days however we have not ran out of hot water yet. The recovery rate seems to be really fast and the electronic controlls are nice. The only thing I can say bad - and it is really not bad - is the fan is a little noisy. If it is in a room with a door on it and it is closed you can not hear it. If the door is open it sounds like a hair dryer on a low setting. It only runs when heating and it heats really fast so it is only on a small amount of time. Not a problem for us just worth mentioning when deciding where to install it. October 22, 2011
