One flash every three seconds means the pilot is lit and the gas valve is operating properly.
If the Status Light flashes once every three seconds and you have no hot water, make sure the gas control valve is turned to "Hot."
Check several faucets in the house. Single handled faucets and shower controls can fail and make it appear that the water heater is not working.
